We received a great phone call from David Barclay, an Internet reader in Denver, Colorado. He was asking about the mystery picture. He recognized the North Room at Sagamore Hill. That picture was taken by Robert Fitzpatrick.
Mr. Barclay grew up in Oyster Bay and worked at Canterbury Ales. He said he knew us from serving us at that restaurant. Mr. Barclay said he and his wife and daughter, Steph and Ella, may be coming back to see the Oyster Festival. "It's been a while," he said. We said we'd see him at Canterbury Ales!
Billy Minicozzi made a guess on the picture, but he was right on target when he said the Bayville Firemen were having a clothing drive to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina last Saturday, Sept. 10. It was also the weekend of the great Bayville arts and crafts fair.
We also received an Internet identification of the Sept. 1 mystery picture from Edward B. (Woody) Ryder IV who said, "It's the start of the annual Red Cross Swim Across event on Centre Island."
