The Save the Jewel by the Bay Committee is out working to get signatures for the petition they will bring to the Sept. 27 Town of Oyster Bay Board hearing on the proposed moratorium on residential building in the hamlet.

We are in favor of the moratorium and people looking at the issue of what is happening in the community but we also want to urge you to put the date on your calendar and try to attend the meeting.

While petitions are important, what really impresses the town board members is seeing residents taking the time to come to a hearing and express their views. You may not want to speak at the meeting, but just your being there speaks volumes to the elected officials.

So, please put Tuesday, Sept. 27 on your calendar. It should be a very interesting meeting. We'll be there covering it, so sign the petitions, buy the buttons, send the letters but most importantly, please be there.
