Town Ground Breaking for September 11
The Town of Oyster Bay held a groundbreaking ceremony for its September 11 Memorial at Tobay Beach on Sunday, Sept. 12. They unveiled the memorial design showing what will become a quiet area, set into the dunes with a direct view to where the Twin Towers sat in the midst of the Manhattan financial center.
Friends of Sagamore Hill Honors McMillan and Gable
The Friends of Sagamore Hill will present awards to Robert R. McMillan, Esq. and Dr. John Allen. Gable at an evening awards gala to be held Aug. 15, on the lawn of Sagamore Hill, Theodore Roosevelt's home on Cove Neck. McMillan, an attorney, philanthropist, and civic leader, received "The Man in the Arena Recognition Award" for his numerous public services. McMillan was a member and then chairman of the board of directors of the Panama Canal Commission, 1989-1994; and has held many posts in government and nonprofit organizations. Dr. John A. Gable, executive director of the Theodore Roosevelt Association since 1974, received "The Friends of Sagamore Hill Service Award" in recognition of his work for Sagamore Hill during his 30-year tenure as executive director of the TRA.
Oyster Bay's Elizabeth Penagos Scores in Inaugural Heart & Sole 5 Kilometer Run
Congratulations to veteran Oyster Bay runner Elizabeth Penagos, who scored with first place honors in the 55-59 age group in the Heart & Sole 5 Kilometer Run that was held on the roads of Plainview on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 29, a brand new event on the Long Island running scene.
Hoffman, Palumbo Play in Vytra Volleyball Tournament at Jones Beach
The Village of Bayville was well represented with players at the annual Vytra Volleyball Tournament that took place last month. Jason Hoffman and Sergio Palumbo played on two of the teams in the tournament.
