Snow Enhances Holidays in Oyster Bay
Oyster Bay Civic Association board member Charleen Niznik, chairperson of Holidays in Oyster Bay organized a great show. The blizzard on Saturday Dec. 6 made it a perfect holiday picture on Sunday, Dec. 7. Adding to the charm, there was a horse-drawn sleigh, courtesy of the Main Street Association and a reindeer sleigh for Santa Claus, courtesy of the Atlantic Steamer Fire Co. No. 1. Both fire companies took part in the parade to the Derby-Hall Bandstand in Townsend Park.

Diplomatic Reception Room Highlighted for President and Laura Bush's Greeting Card
On Friday, Nov. 28, over 1.5 million Christmas cards bearing a Crawford, Texas postmark were mailed to friends and family of President and Mrs. George Walker (and Laura) Bush, as well as foreign dignitaries. This year's official White House Christmas card was designed by artist Barbara Ernst Prey of Oyster Bay, and depicts the Diplomatic Reception Room of the White House.

Boating Safety Course Held December 13
A one-day Boating Safety Course (mandatory for all owners of personal watercraft this year) was given on Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Oyster Bay Waterfront Center. The US Coast Guard Auxiliary is the civilian volunteer arm of the US Coast Guard and a component of the new Department of Homeland Security. Working alongside the active duty Coast Guard, the Auxiliary supports the Coast Guard by conducting search and rescue missions, public education courses, courtesy vessel examinations, environmental protection missions, verifying aides to navigational and much more.
