This is the second year for the Roughriders Football League and the first year for their cheerleaders. "It's a new organization and we have a great following," said M.T. (Mary Theresa) Marolda.

"There are about 70 boys in the league and 60 cheerleaders. The cheerleaders are the cutest things you've ever seen in their costumes, They are ages 6 and 7. Mitzi Testaverde is their coach."

The football players are about the same age: they are the peewees and midgets. They play at Roosevelt Memorial Field where the Oyster Bay High School Baymen hold their games.

"This is a really great program for the kids," said M.T.

Her husband, Michael Marolda is the boys' coach. The children come from Oyster Bay, East Norwich, Muttontown and Brookville.

Sunday, October 12 is a big day for the league as all three teams will be playing at home. They are inviting residents to come and watch the games, which take place at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. in their home field.

On opening day, John Canning, a candidate for Town Receiver of Taxes and Rose Walker, who is running for Tobay Councilwoman, attended the ceremonies.
