The Oyster Bay and Oyster Bay/East Norwich Soccer Clubs will compete in the annual American Ref-Fuel Soccer Tournament, New York State's largest youth soccer tournament with over 340 teams representing approximately 90 clubs. The three-day tournament, now in its 25th year, is hosted by the East Meadow Soccer Club and was scheduled to be played at up to 12 Nassau County sites on August 23, 24 and 25.
American Ref-Fuel, operator of the Island's largest waste-to-energy plant, located off the Meadowbrook Parkway in the Town of Hempstead, returns as the tournament's presenting sponsor for the 15th year. "We are thrilled to again help bring together thousands of children, parents, coaches and community leaders for a weekend of fun and healthy competition," said Steve Bossotti, manager of the plant, which opened in Westbury in 1989.
Teams in seven age groups will represent clubs from as far away as Bermuda. More than 50 Long Island clubs will participate. The tournament's final trophy round took place on Monday, Aug. 25 at three locations: The Field of Dreams in East Meadow, Stillwell Woods in Syosset and Long Island Soccer Park in Plainview.
