Charlie Doering called and said, "The picture in the Aug. 28 issue shows a nasty day on the water. The weather was awful as the boats lined up for the Blessing of the Fleet. I was there standing on the pier at the western waterfront, next to Paul Annunziato. The Coast Guard was there with their flag squad. The boats are lined up in the background, and you can see Mill Neck." Mr. Doering is correct. The photograph was one of several we received from the Waterfront Center of their coverage of Bay Day, which was also the day of the Blessing of the Fleet.
Billy Minicozzi said, "It's a Coast Guard ship in the Oyster Bay Harbor. Summer's ending and fall is on the way. I hope the Jets and Giants have a great football season."
Nick LaBella called about the two previous pictures. He recognized the first (from Aug. 15) as the old Legion building with the painting of TR on the front wall. The photo in the Aug. 21 issue, he guessed as being taken in the Knights of Columbus hall.
The picture of the children dancing in the Aug. 21 issue was finally identified correctly by Lauren Victory. She said, "It was taken at the Boys & Girls Club gala in May and it is of the little kids dancing at the clubhouse."
The lattice in the background of the picture confused everyone. Beverly Zembko was one of the callers who thought it was the fellowship hall of the First Presbyterian Church.
Kathleen Foster too, said, "The 'still a mystery picture' is the social hall at the First Presbyterian Church on East Main Street."
Now you know the picture is from the Boys & Girls Club gala, we don't know how the lattice arrived there, that might be another mystery to solve. - DFK
