Amerada Hess: They Made Me Do It!
The Amerada Hess Corporation was issued its first summons, on Feb. 26, about the sale of beer in its newly opened mini-mart on Lexington Avenue and Pine Hollow Road. The summons was returnable on March 31 at the 4th District Court in Hicksville. That began a story, the most recent installment of which took place on Aug. 5 at a town hall hearing. At issue are the covenants and restrictions (C&Rs) signed by Amerada Hess stating that among other things, they had agreed not to sell beer in their new convenience store.

Councilmanic Districts? Incorporation?
The form of government in Nassau County appears to be in a flux mode. Since the Nassau County Board of Supervisors was disbanded and turned into the present legislative form of government, the Town of Hempstead had councilmanic districts imposed on them by the court and the Town of North Hempstead residents voted them in. At the Aug. 5 Town of Oyster Bay meeting, Hicksville resident Joel Berse suggested it might be well for the town board to investigate the issue.

EN Junior Firefighters Learn Water Rescue
The East Norwich Junior Firefighters had a unique learning experience on July 17 and 25. They received training in water rescue at a Scuba School held at the Forest Estates Pool Club in Oyster Bay.

St. Gertrude's Forms Boys Varsity High School Preseason League
St. Gertrude's Youth Sports is looking to form a Boys Varsity High School preseason basketball league to commence on Sept. 14 and conclude on Nov. 16. All games will be played on Sundays. There is an eight game minimum, 9/10 game guarantee. All participants must be attendees of their local high school.
