OBCA Votes to Preserve Open Space
Civic Takes Proactive Stand on Proposed Use of Oyster Bay Sump --
When Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi brought his economic redevelopment trunk show to Oyster Bay on March 4, local resident Henry Rappuhn suggested using the space taken by sumps to be used for further development. Mr. Suozzi said there are 600 sumps in the county and they are doing an inventory of them to see what usage is possible.

St. Rocco's Festival: An OB Tradition
This year was the 25th St. Rocco Festival run by "Chairman Joe" Barnao. Speaking of anniversaries, this was the second year with Monsignor John Alesandro at the helm of St. Dominic's and it was the first year he made the zeppolis at the feast. "We told him he had to, that it was his initiation to the event," said Marie Knight.

OBEN PAL Karate Program Welcomes Three New Black Belts
If you drive north on South Street, you can't help but notice the OBEN PAL sign on the left side of the street by the police booth. The sign expresses congratulations to the OBEN PAL Karate Program's newest black belts: Sara Kenn, Marissa, Kenn, and Richard Treacy. The three students were promoted to the rank of black belt on June 13 after meeting rigorous testing criteria. Head instructor Sifu Andrew Hall stated that Sara, Marissa and Richard have been undergoing very vigorous training over the past three months in order to prepare for this test. With the valuable assistance of Sifu Caitlin Bellissimo and Sifu Chris Peltzer, Sifu Hall worked with the three promising black belts three days a week in order to prepare them for the sparring, forms and self-defense skills that would be required elements of the test.

Blue Jays Win Local Al Leiter Little League's First Title
Under a threatening sky at Memorial Field on Saturday, June 21, the Blue Jays, coached by Mike Wilson, defeated the As, coached by James Robinson, by a score of 3-1 to win the first Al Leiter Little League Major League Championship.
