Robert W. Henken, 55, of Bayville, died on July 2, 2003. He served in the county and state court systems for more than 30 years. He began his career as a uniformed court officer and retired in 2002 as the Deputy Chief Clerk of the NC District Court. He was simultaneously the Commissioner of Civil Arbitration for NC.

Among his many achievements was the 1988 consolidation of the district court which had previously been in disjointed locations. Another was the creation of the NC Bureau of Adjudication which enabled the county's citizens to have appellate rights. These were two landmark events in NC's judicial processes. Mr. Henken also retired with 21 years as the Chief Legal Clerk of the Army's 301st Support Group. He served on the Zoning Board of Appeals in the Village of Bayville and is a former commander of Robert H. Spittel American Legion Post 1285 of Bayville.

Mr. Henken was raised in Hempstead, graduated from Nassau Community College and resided in Bayville for 32 years with his wife Helene (nee Gore), son Lawrence and daughter Rebecca. Son of Ethel and the late Stanley S. Brother of Andrew and David. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relations. The lifelong Nassau County resident loved reading, outdoor activity and hosting friends for barbeques and events. He was a generous family man, accomplished public servant and a good neighbor to all.

Arrangements were made by Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Service and interment private. Donations may be made in Robert's name to your favorite charity.

Sarah A. Sanford, of East Norwich, died on July 5, 2003. Wife of the late William Henry. Mother of the late Dorothy Setari. Grandmother of Peter and John Setari and Sallyann Rosenthal. Sister of Etta and May. Mother-in-law of Albert Setari. Arrangements were made by the Francis P. DeVine Funeral Home, Oyster Bay.

Mary Jane Reiser, 49, of East Norwich, died on July 5, 2003. She was a former librarian at the Oyster Bay Library, East Woods School and the the Seaford School District. Daughter of the late Anthony Gurnari. Sister of Buddy and Sue. Aunt of Mason Varias. Arrangements were made by the Francis P. DeVine Funeral Home, Oyster Bay. Memorial Mass at St. Dominic's RC Church. Celebration of Life was held at the Theodore Roosevelt Park. Contributions can be made to Hospice Care Network, 900 Merchants Concourse, Westbury, NY.

James P. Kreidler, formerly of Oyster Bay Cove, died recently. He was a past member of the Oyster Bay Power Squadron. Cousin of Norman (Myrtle) Gengler, Pam (John) Fuss, Brian (Mary) Roethgen, Nancy (Bob) Ludwig and Robert (Marge) Tilley. Brother-in-law of Gail Kreidler. Uncle of Linda (Art) Chavez. Arrangements were made by the A.L. Jacobsen Funeral Home, Huntington Station. Interment Locust Valley Cemetery.

Eileen Catoe (Phelan), formerly of East Norwich, died suddenly on June 29, 2003. She is survived by her daughter Lynn Phelan and her grandchildren, Jordyn, Kyle and Tyler Walsh. A memorial service will be held at the Francis P. DeVine Funeral Home, 293 South St., on July 22 from 7 to 9 p.m.
