Town's Students Shine on the Fourth
It was bigger and better than ever. This year's July Fourth celebrated the 227th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the 350th anniversary of the Town of Oyster Bay. There were other differences. This year, because of the heat, (last year three people fainted at the event) the festivities began at 10 a.m.; the speeches were short and the highlight of the day was the presentation of certificates to 35 town students. It was a poster, essay and poetry contest to celebrate the Town of Oyster Bay's 350th Anniversary. The idea was generated by Oyster Bay Town Historian Dorothy Horton McGee and the judging was done at her home by the members of the Bicentennial Commission of which she is the chair.

Mill Neck Track Team Travels to Rhode Island
The Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf track team recently traveled to Providence, Rhode Island for the 2003 Eastern Schools for the Deaf Athletic Association (ESDAA) Track and Field Tournament. Hosted at Rhode Island School for the Deaf, the tournament was held on May 15 and 16.

Legislators Lobby for Safety at Sea
Due to the efforts of NYS Senators Carl Marcellino and Flanagan and Assemblymen James Conte and Andrew Raia, the foghorn service at Eatons Neck and Huntington Harbor will continue. Rear Admiral V.S. Crea, U.S. Coast Guard Commander, announced that after a thorough analysis of the Huntington Bay waterway and based on input from many mariners and local officials, it was worth continuing.
