How Well Do You Know the Area? Do you know where this week's picture was taken? If you do, call the Enterprise-Pilot at 747-8282 and let us know. If you have a picture that you think might be interesting for others to guess, drop it off in our box at Pleasant Valley Gallery & Gifts, 101 South Street, Oyster Bay.

Tanya Walker called after reading the Oyster Bay Enterprise Pilot and seeing her granddaughter Kaitlyn Bagan's name and photograph in the newspaper. (Her name was spelled incorrectly in the paper. Our apologies.) Her granddaughter received 11 awards when OBHS held its award night, she said. "Kaitlyn is a beautiful person in more ways than one."

All that sparked her interest in calling about the mystery picture. "It's the Oyster Bay Water District on Audrey Avenue. It's all enclosed in a chain link fence."

Tanya's husband Dan Walker was at the Sagamore Hill 50th Anniversary celebration. His brother Stephen Walker was leading the Oyster Bay Community Band.

Evan Schreiber called to identify the mystery photo and said,"It's the Oyster Bay Water District to the right and to the left, in the corner of the picture, is the HSBC Bank on Audrey Avenue. Yeah, that's it," he confirmed to himself and us.

Billy Minicozzi called and said it was the Oyster Bay Water District. On a sports note he said: "Joe Namath the only quarterback to take the Jets to the Super Bowl in '69 has a new job as ambassador for the Jets."

And... as for the Oyster Bay Water District: it is being renovated. They need more room for their equipment, and wanted a larger meeting room. The work required compliance with the American Disabilities Act so there is a small elevator being built at the back of the building. The job of renovating the building will cost about about $700,000 at no charge to the taxpayers. The success of having cell phone antennas on their water towers has been a great boon to the district, and good timing for them to do the needed work. Currently the district is operating out of its location on South Street in the building that belongs to the Oyster Bay Fire Company No. 1.

So there's the rest of the story.
