Sun Shines Inside on Class of 2003
Every graduation is unique. This year, Oyster Bay High School held its first graduation in the Howard Imhof Gymnasium on Sunday June 22. Family and friends crowded the chairs set in the middle of the gym, and the bleachers on both sides. It was a record crowd for a graduation, held inside because of the threat of more rain. Superintendent of Schools Dr. George Chesterton told the audience, "I said the sun will shine today, and I was right. The sun will shine on your sons and your daughters."

Time Is Running Out for Preservation
When you are driving down a local tree-bordered road, take heed. Open space on Long Island is being snatched up by developers in a process that can change the visual character of the north shore. But, there is hope. "There is still a surprising amount of beautiful open land on the north shore and if we don't protect it over the next three to five years - we will have run out of time," said Carter Bayles, the head of the North Shore Land Alliance (NSLA).

Columbus' Nina Visits Oyster Bay
On Wednesday, June 25, the Nina, a replica of Columbus' favorite ship will open to visitors in Oyster Bay. The ship will be docked at the Waterfront Center, 1 West End Avenue, until her departure early morning Monday, June 30.

Dana Galgano First in Ice Skating
Congratulations to 5-year-old Dana Galgano of Mill Neck who was awarded her third 1st place trophy at the 2nd Annual Port Washington Skating Center Basic Skills Competition on June 14. Dana also placed first in two other beginner level events this spring. Dana has been skating since age 3 with her coach Linder Lester at Iceworks in Syosset. She attributes her success to lots of practice and dedication, a great coach and her lucky figure skates signed by her idol Sarah Hughes this past summer at Iceworks.
