Toni Kabelka got it all together when she answered the mystery picture. She said "It is 'Fuzzball' Minicozzi and Tony Verrelli, in Verrelli's Market. Joe won the big Easter egg contest at Eastertime!"
John DeJesu is back in Oyster Bay for a month vacation and staying with his daughter Jane Morfis in Bayville. He called to identify the mystery picture. At first he called it "Ferraro's Market," which was fun because he was remembering the store of Marie Knight's family. He called back to correct the name immediately, calling it Verrelli's Market.
Mr. DeJesu identified the location as the place where Ungerman's Chevrolet was located, and then Chamberlain Chevrolet. That was followed by Dodds & Eder when it was their seed supply store, on West Main Street.
Mr. DeJesu has been keeping very busy over the past five years in Florida. He is the Food Director of Palm Beach Harvest and is a Junior Warden in his church. The program feeds 800 people a week, providing clothes, supplies, pharmaceuticals and a full course dinner on Fridays. At Christmas they have a program they do with the Bishop of South Florida for 1,200 children. "My wife and I keep very busy there," he said. "It's good being back. I still remember Oyster Bay and am interested in what is happening on the waterfront. I was the first lifeguard at Beekman Beach when I was going to art school in New York City. I remember Theodore Roosevelt's grave and Sagamore Hill, of which I am a member. I miss it all so much, it is good to be back," he said.
Jennifer Capozzoli said, "The picture was taken in Verrelli's Market."
Evan Schreiber said, "I think it is Verrelli's Supermarket and on a sports note: the New Jersey Nets beat the Spurs. And I want to say congratulations to the Devils, Anaheim is good, yeah!" He added, "Go on Mighty Ducks."
Billy Minicozzi said, "It's Verrelli's Supermarket in Oyster Bay, with Oyster Bay Fireman Joseph Minicozzi." He added, "Carmine from the Oyster Bay Town Sign Shop just turned 60 years old last week. Happy birthday Carmine!"
On a sports note, he said, "I hope the Mets will be on a big winning streak!"
