We are always looking at the week's news to see what is worthy of extra mention in the form of an editorial. This week it is the school budgets. We hope you will all vote for the Oyster Bay and Locust Valley school budgets. Money spent on educating our children is well spent. If we don't spend the money on children while they are school age, we just have to keep spending money, as a society for their (possible) failures.
Let's all get behind the concept that education is a priority for a successful society.
And for Oyster Bay, please vote yes on Proposition 2. It will take money remaining from the recent capital projects in the district and apply it to several projects remaining. It will be a quick and easy way to finally renovate the Oyster Bay auditorium, which we see as a great plus for the community.
We have to take responsibility for maintaining our school facilities, and since the money is there the work can be done without adding to the tax figures. Considering what this district went through with the Bermingham School property, we, of all districts should appreciate the need to maintain and upgrade the public school's facilities.
Best of all, the auditorium is not only a school facility, it is a cultural asset for the entire community. Voting yes for Proposition 2 is a grand statement for the future of the community.
