How Well Do You Know the Area? Do you know where this week's picture was taken? If you do, call the Enterprise-Pilot at 747-8282 and let us know. If you have a picture that you think might be interesting for others to guess, drop it off in our box at Pleasant Valley Gallery & Gifts, 101 South Street, Oyster Bay.

Mr. Richard Siegelman was the first caller to identify the photograph in last week's Oyster Bay Enterprise Pilot. He said, "It was taken in Mr. Siegelman's fourth grade classroom at the Bermingham School on School House Place." He then ran through the names quickly. "I can't ID the room number," he said. "It was in the fourth grade wing."

The next caller was Stephen Cogliandro. He recognized the second boy on the top, at the right, as his father Joseph Cogliandro, Jr. "It's Mr. Siegelman's class of 1967. My father graduated in 1975 from Oyster Bay High School. I have the same photograph. Mr. Siegelman would take the class picture and write all the names of the students on the back. Dad had him in the fourth grade and I had him in the third grade and my brother had him in reading. I used to call in for the Mystery Picture when I was younger. When I saw this picture, I said to myself, 'I have to call again!'"

Dulcie Fabbricante called to say, "The picture shows a wonderful teacher, Mr. Siegelman, at the beginning of his teaching career with his fourth grade class at Bermingham. My son Greg Davis is in the picture and Mr. Siegelman was one of his very favorite teachers, so I imagine you'll get a lot of calls on this one," she said.

Mr. Siegelman's first class in Oyster Bay was the fourth grade at the John F. Bermingham School 1966 to '67. In the first row are, from the left: Barbara Silver, Tricia Mummery, Laura King, Denise Strauss, Cathy Brady, Nancy Siriani, Helene Lazarus. In the middle row are: Fred Cohen, John Woodstock, Gina LoRusso, Carol Scheer, Sandra Ghelfi, Wendy Binder, Grace Freitag, John Glynn, John Dupre, Jonathan Russell. In the back row are: Jeff Pliskin, Michael Feinberg, Jeff Henry, Greg Davis, Mark Mannos, Todd Bonanza, Joe Cogliandro, Robert Tarakan. There were several more members in the class: John Burr, David Jeffrey, George Balog and Debby DeWaltoff.

Billy Minicozzi said, "The mystery photo is a class photo of primary school kids." On a sports note he said: Dave Dubusher died at age 61. He won two championships for the Knicks.

And: We had some "late breaking answers" to the mystery photo from last week. One came from the Mystery Phantom. He said his daughter in Doylestown, PA, said "It is the Bonanza stand across the street from town hall." The phantom plans to go to Sagamore Hill by kayak. He has a red, two person kayak, he said. "Going (in a kayak) along West Shore Road is like going over the top of a giant aquarium," he said.

Rose Murphy said, "It's definitely Chink's, Bonanza's on Audrey Avenue and Maxwell Avenue. When Chink's opened, the small size of lemon ice was two cents and a large was a nickel. He used to walk up to the A&P to get fresh lemons."

Levon Ashby e-mailed his answer to last week's picture. "It's the hot dog stand on the corner across from the post office, near Maxwell Avenue, I believe. I can't remember the name of the other street. I only remember calling it "Chink's" in the '50s, if I am correct."

Harold F. Flower e-mailed his answer too. "Billy Minicozzi was right in his identification of the hot dog and ice stand, in downtown Oyster Bay across from the post office and west of the Water Company office, dead center in town. It was the entrance to Roosevelt Park by a few hundred yards. Chick Bonanza, (Everyone called him Chink) was a great guy to all who knew him. That building should be preserved for the new generations. It has the best lemon ice!"
