Charles H. Simons Jr., 82, formerly of Locust Valley, died on April 22, 2003. A US Army Air Corp veteran, he was based with the Eighth Air Force in England as an armorer-gunner with the rank of technical sergeant on a B-17 Flying Fortress with 25 missions to his credit. Mr. Simons won the Air Medal with Three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Good Conduct Medal. Prior to entering the Army he was a chauffeur after attending Oyster Bay High School. He drove for private persons and then was with the Bohack Company. Father of Butch (Linda), Fred (Michele), Ann Skoczdopole (John), Bill (Dorothy), Emily Collins (John), Florence Taylor (Chris), Eddie (Kim) and the late Pamela. Brother of Mary Dieterle (Harold), the late John, William and Robert. Grandfather of 16. Great-grandfather of one. Arrangements were made by the Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Prayer service at the funeral home. Interment Calverton VA Cemetery.

Constance Úquot;ConnieÚquot; Owens, of Oyster Bay, died on April 24, 2003. Mother of Dale (Brian) Healy, Barbara (Chris) Parlante, Nancy (Jimmy) Galasso, Betsy Panagot, Susan Marzola and Bill (Helena) Owens. Nana of Chris, Dennis, Maura, Carrie, Jim, Tim, John, Justine, Stephanie, Brandon, Leslie, Johnny, Megan, Stephen, Hayley, Terry and William Warren Jr. Arrangements were made by the Francis P. DeVine Funeral Home, Oyster Bay. Memorial Mass at St. Dominic's RC Chapel. Donations may be made to the Doubleday Babcock Senior Center, 45 E. Main St., Oyster Bay, NY.

James A. Smith, a longtime resident of Bayville, died on April 27, 2003. Husband of Elsie (nee Lange). Father of James and Diana Townsend. Grandfather of Carl Townsend. Arrangements were made by the Oyster Bay Funeral Home. Mass at St. Gertrude's Church. Interment Locust Valley Cemetery.

Frank Arata, a lifelong resident of Oyster Bay, died on April 27, 2003. He was a former butcher at Hanophy's Market and was the oldest living member of Atlantic Steamer Fire Co. #1. Husband of Ann. Father of Frank Jr. (Rachel). Grandfather of Stephanie Arata and Nicole Suffardo. Arrangements were made by the Francis P. DeVine Funeral Home, Oyster Bay. Funeral Mass at St. Dominic's RC Chapel. Interment St. Patrick's Cemetery. Contributions can be made to Atlantic Steamer Fire Co. #1.
