Charles H. Simons Jr., 82, formerly of Locust Valley, died on April 22, 2003. A US Army Air Corp veteran, he was based with the Eighth Air Force in England as an armorer-gunner with the rank of technical sergeant on a B-17 Flying Fortress with 25 missions to his credit. Mr. Simons won the Air Medal with Three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Good Conduct Medal. Prior to entering the Army he was a chauffeur after attending Oyster Bay High School. He drove for private persons and then was with the Bohack Company. Father of Butch (Linda), Fred (Michele), Ann Skoczdopole (John), Bill (Dorothy), Emily Collins (John), Florence Taylor (Chris), Eddie (Kim) and the late Pamela. Brother of Mary Dieterle (Harold), the late John, William and Robert. Grandfather of 16. Great-grandfather of one. Arrangements were made by the Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Prayer service at the funeral home. Interment Calverton VA Cemetery.
