A boating course for young boat operators, ages 10 through 17, starts Tuesday, May 5, 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bayville Community Center located at 88 Bayville Avenue, Bayville.

Conducted by the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 12-3, cooperating with the Bayville Community Center, in four sessions on May 5, 8, 12 and 15, provides a certificate required by New York State for boaters, 10 through 17 years of age. Tuition and course materials are free. It is mandatory you attend all four classes to receive certification; there will be no exceptions.

For adults: The Coast Guard will also be giving the New York State Personal Watercraft Certification at the same dates and times. There is a $10 fee to the state.
