The American Red Cross in Nassau County (ARC/Nassau) will hold its Aquatics School 2003 for lifeguards and water safety instructors in May and June with the support of Pierce Country Day Camp in Roslyn. Lifeguard training: This course is for those interested in becoming a pool or waterfront non-surf lifeguard. The course covers CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Automated External Defibrillation, First Aid, Waterfront Lifeguarding and Pool Lifeguarding. Tuition is $330. Requirements: You must be at least 15 years of age by the end of the program, pass the pre-requisite sessions, including the water skills pre-test, and attend and pass all scheduled sessions. Lifeguard Training Review: This 12-hour course tests currently certified lifeguard skills and knowledge by reviewing the life guarding course. This course includes certification in First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. Tuition is $150. Requirements: You must be at least 15 years of age by the end of the program, have a current lifeguard certification card, book and pocket mask, pass the water skills pre-test, and attend and pass all scheduled sessions. Waterfront Lifeguarding: This course teaches lifeguard skills needed to prevent and respond to emergencies at calm waterfront facilities. Tuition is $50. Requirements: You must be 15 years of age and have current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate. Aquatic School: Sunday, June 8, 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at Pierce Country Day Camp in Roslyn.

Water Safety Instructor: This course is for those interested in teaching swimming. The course covers basic Water Rescue Instructor and Fundamentals of Instructor Training. Tuition is $375. Requirements: You must be at least 17 years of age by the end of the program, must pass the pre-requisite sessions including the Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT) course, the water skills test, and a written pre-test with a score of 80 percent or better, attend and pass all scheduled sessions.
