The Friends of Long Island Wrestling, the local representative to the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater, Oklahoma, announces that Irv Apgar, of Farmingdale, Ed Hubbard of Bay Shore and Matt Sanzone of Locust Valley, will be joining a number of elite wrestling coaches who have been recognized by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame for outstanding accomplishments in serving the youth of Long Island.
Sanzone, The Father of Locust Valley Wrestling, was charged with starting a wrestling program in Locust Valley. Three years later, the Falcons were competing for their first league championship. Sanzone's teams won 16 League championships; one Nassau County championship and he coached one New York State Wrestling Champion in the course of his 24 years as head coach.
The Life Time Service Award honors and recognizes the dedicated coaches for their years of commitment to the youth of America. Coaches Apgar, Sanzone and Hubbard will be permanently recognized in the Hall of Fame in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The induction dinner will take place at the Huntington Hilton Banquet Hall on April 25.
