Thank you for all who turned out at the Blueberries Shopping Center for the distribution of yellow ribbons. If you look around town I am sure you will see how many ribbons were put up on Saturday, March 29.
But a slight problem has occurred. Some of the ribbons were affixed to the trees and poles in such a manner that they have fallen, apparently not tied tightly enough. So please feel free to stop, even if you have not been the one who put the ribbon up, and fix it, tie it tighter or replace it.
Which brings me to the next subject: this was not a one day event. The ribbons are still available at the Hayes beauty salon in the Blueberries shopping center every day. Just stop in and pick up as many as you'd like to put up. They are free. Your only obligation is to securely affix them to a tree or pole in East Norwich. Put them up anywhere, but remember our main purpose is to get them up on the main roadways so they are visible to as many people as possible.
Please participate in this worthwhile venture at a time convenient to yourself. Anytime, all week, just pick up some ribbons and put them up.
We think we have started something here in East Norwich which will develop like wildfire. On Saturday, Newsday covered the story and took pictures. According to them, they knew of no other community doing what we were doing, so I guess we are the first.
Mayor Peregine of Oyster Bay Cove who was with us, is going to follow suit in his village and he tells us the Village of Laurel Hollow will likely follow. What a statement we will be making coming down Northern Blvd. with yellow ribbons affixed to all the trees from Mill River Road all the way to the Huntington Town line.
Be a part of it. Pick up some ribbons and put them up anywhere, but mainly along the main roadways.
