How Well Do You Know the Area? Do you know where this week's picture was taken? If you do, call the Enterprise-Pilot at 747-8282 and let us know. If you have a picture that you think might be interesting for others to guess, drop it off in our box at Pleasant Valley Gallery & Gifts, 101 South Street, Oyster Bay.

Will Flower called from Ft. Lauderdale to say the March 6 mystery photo is, "Looking north from Hallock Chevrolet across to BMW of Oyster Bay and looking toward the other shopping centers along Pine Hollow Road."

Barbara Harley said, "This picture is an easy one. It's the property of the former Hallock dealership, looking toward the BMW dealer in Oyster Bay.

Paul Keller of Bayville said, "It's taken from the parking lot of Hallock Chevrolet and across the street is the BMW dealer. I hope you guys are enjoying the snow."

Jack Hutchinson called to say, "It's taken from the old Hallock Chevrolet building now empty, looking south east. The next building is the BMW dealership and the South Street shopping center."

Bill Snyder said, "The picture is Hallock Chevrolet looking across Route 106 toward the BMW dealership.

Brad Goldberg said, "The March 6 mystery picture is taken from Hallock Chevrolet, looking down upon the BMW dealership and the shopping center."

Nicole Wage of Bayville said, "It's taken from what is now an empty lot at Hallock Chevrolet."

Belle Santoro, too recognized the BMW dealership and the Hallock parking lot in Pine Hollow.

Irene Leahey of Locust Valley also knew it as the former Hallock Chevrolet dealership looking across the Corssen's BMW dealership and the shopping center.

The mystery caller repeated the information, as did Woody Ryder, who said, "It's a picture of BMW of Oyster Bay, taken from the vantage point of Robbie Hallock's former Chevy franchise, with the photographer's back to the glass wall of Robbie's dealership." (Actually the picture was taken from Robbie's office.)

Rich Mancini sent an email answer, "Well, I'll really go out on a limb - please bear in mind that it's been a lot of years since I spent any appreciable amount of time in O.B. The photo seems to look like the old movie theater on Pine Hollow Road - possibly taken from across the road at what used to be the sand pits (Fahr Sand and Gravel). If I'm wrong - - no biggie! I still look forward to the Mystery Picture. Best Regards from the Pacific Northwest."

Mr. Mancini's answer is of course correct, but the time frame is different.

And: Robert Kennedy emailed a comment about the Row Around the Bay photo but questioned that there were members of the Sagamore Rowing Club in the shot in the Feb. 6 issue. He said, "Sorry to say, but the identification is not Sagamore Rowing Club, but a kayak group. Kayak paddles are double ended and rowing oars are single ended."

Well, what can we say. There were lots of kayakers there that day, but we remember rowing crew members as being there too. Actually the next "Row Around the Bay" event will be part of Bay Day 2003, on June 7. It will be the 6th running of the event and we can all take a look at the participants then for a "final answer."
