We always enjoy hearing about what the East Norwich Civic Association is doing. You may have noticed the new sign on Route 106 that announces Norwich Greens.

Matthew Meng, president of the East Norwich Civic Association credited the work to Sean Rainey for collecting $1,100 from East Norwich residents for the sign and for the community garden which is located on Martling Street. It will look more wonderful in the warmer weather.

Mr. Meng is also happy with the new landlord of the Blueberry Shopping Center. He's put in cobblestones between the sidewalk and Blueberries. He took down all the trees and tore up the center divide, and put in lighting and paving. He took down the barrier put up by civic and put flowers, sprinklers and lights there. "Boy is he doing good things," said Mr. Meng in a recent telephone conversation.

Mr. Meng is also working on a project for East Norwich along with Assemblywoman Donna Ferrara. They are looking into connecting the road into Chelsea Center with Mill River Road more directly. Mr. Meng said they are considering moving the exit area of Mill River Road a bit further east to allow cars to drive across Route 106 (after reducing the median) to directly access Chelsea.

That looks like a good idea since it would make it easier to get into Chelsea. He said it might even be possible for St. Dominic's to eventually access their fields from that area, since there would be very few trees that would have to be taken down.

That would certainly be a good thing and one that will please a great many people. We applaud the work of the East Norwich Civic Association and all its members for making the one mile square village even better. It is a lovely place to live and our neighbors are wonderful. That includes Mr. Rainey and Steve Silsz both of whom helped dig the editor out during two recent snow storms. What a great place to live!
