Civic Is Educated on Stormwater
Louise Harrison, executive director of Friends of the Bay, gave a slide lecture to members of the Oyster Bay Civic Association at their Feb. 20 meeting. It was an informal educational experience as listeners asked questions and made comments. She showed the course of water in its stages: as ice frozen on tree branches after a storm dripping down; as snow melting into a stream; to water standing in a catch basin and slowly filtering down into the groundwater - all the time demonstrating that the longer it takes for water to filter down the watershed and slide into the harbor, the cleaner the water will be.

Three Great Presidents Contest Winners
"Three Great Presidents," Presidents' Day Contest sponsored by Raynham Hall Museum, The Book Mark Café, Youngs Farm and the Oyster Bay Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution was a great success. Children in grades two through six were asked to enter the Poem and Art Contest by writing an original poem about George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and/or Theodore Roosevelt. The participants were invited to attend the awards ceremony on Thursday, Feb. 13, at Raynham Hall Museum followed by an open house and a reception with light refreshments.

Tobay Beach Dune Stabilization Project a Success
Despite below freezing temperatures more than a dozen Greenville Baker Boys & Girls Club members ages 6 to 11 volunteered to participate in the 15th Annual Dune Stabilization Project at Tobay Beach on Jan.18. The program was sponsored by the Department of Community & Youth services of the Town of Oyster Bay. It was an unqualified success, according to Town Supervisor John Venditto.

Amputee World Record Holder to Speak at Running Club Meeting
The Greater Long Island Running Club announced that Sarah Reinertsen will be the featured speaker at the club's Tuesday, March 18, open general meeting. The meeting will be held at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library, 999 Old Country Road in Plainview, starting promptly at 8 p.m.
