Billy Minicozzi called to identify the mystery picture as, "Oyster Bay Fire Company going through the village with Santa Claus on their float." Billy wished Billy Starke, a happy birthday on Jan. 9. Mr. Starke is the foreman of Public Lighting, the street lights for the town. On a sports note, he said, "It's a shame the Giants lost. I think if the Jets do good in the next game, it will be the Jets and Tampa Bay on Jan. 26 in the Super Bowl in San Diego."
Jack Hutchinson aced the location. "The picture was taken from the corner of South Street and Tooker Avenue, in front of Dr. Chase's dental office, looking up Weeks hill. Dodds & Eder is on the corner you can't see."
Santa Claus was Steve Minicozzi, the little lady sitting in the sleigh was Cassandra West and the two Santa's helpers were Douglas Schadler and Kenneth Minicozzi.
Last week's mystery picture answer came from Leven Ashby, a former Oyster Bay resident, who contacted us via e-mail. He reads the Oyster Bay Enterprise Pilot on the Internet. "It's the old Oyster Bay High School gym. I have no idea about the event," he wrote.
Mr. Ashby is right. It was actually the small side gym at the high school. The event was a toy drive. Rosemary Colvin was in charge, and was in the picture.
