Sagamore Rowing Association held its 6th Annual Long Island Frostbite Regatta on Saturday, Nov. 2. "The regatta was a short and sweet event. It was an abbreviated version: instead of an all day event. They bunched events together for a great three hours," said Claudia J. Pace of the program committee.

Spectators and supporters watched Long Island's fastest growing high school sporting event. Good viewing posts included Beekman Beach, along the shoreline as well as on the newly renovated pier at the WaterFront Center.

The Crew Club of Oyster Bay (CCOB) Sagamore Rowing Association's junior program, comprised of members from area high schools without independent rowing programs (Oyster Bay High School, Syosset High School, Jericho High School, Locust Valley High School, St. Dominic High School and Ward Melville High School) competed against teams from Long Island high schools.

The Oyster Bay Crew Club girls took first place in the eighth and fourth races, said Ms. Pace.

Area high schools, with dedicated rowing programs were represented by crew from Friends Academy, Our Lady of Mercy Academy, Cold Spring Harbor High School, Huntington High School, Half Hollow Hills High School and Chaminade High School.

The SRA is looking forward to their move to their new building on the WaterFront Center. They have used the building already as an indoor area for training, but they are still waiting for the water to be hooked up so that they can receive a certificate of occupancy from the town.
