Stella Spenninger, 96, died on Sept. 2, 2002, in Niagara Falls. Mother of Anne Bahrenburg and Arlene Ilussa. Grandmother of Linda Vetere and Pamela Nealon. Great-grandmother of Gina and Nicole Vetere and Tiffany and Shauna Nealon. Arrangements were made by the Oyster Bay Funeral Home. Funeral Mass at St. Dominic's RC Chapel. Gladys Francis Sardis, affectionately known as "Ma Gladys," "G," GG," and "Mom," was born on March 31, 1920 and departed on Sept. 3, 2002, at 82 years young at North Shore University Hospital at Plainview. Gladys was born in Exmore, VA, to the late George W. Harmona and the late Fannie V. Wharton where she attended elementary school. In 1938 she moved to Oyster Bay where she began her Christian discipleship at Mount Olive Baptist Church under the ministry of Rev. Evans. She met and married Langston D. Francis. From this union she bore two children, William Francis and Connie White. For many years she served as president of Floral Ways and Means Committee and the Culinary Committee. Her culinary skills were outstanding and anyone who knew her could witness to the fact, that she made sure everyone had enough to eat.
For 35 years, she was a communication technician for North Shore University Hospital at Manhasset, until her retirement in 1997. She has touched so many lives with her gentle spirit, her love and her smile. She leaves to mourn her son, William Francis; daughter, Connie White; daughter-in-law to be Eppie; son-in-law Hildred White; son Lanc Francis; daughter Lisa Francis; brother George Harmon; and her one and only sister, Mazie Weeks; grandchildren, Michelle (Perry Satchell), Cynthia Collins; great-grandchildren, Melissa Collins, PJ and Taylor Sachell; godchildren, Jacequeline Dade and James Liverman, Rodney Drake, Adrienne McCoy; "adopted children," Geni Lerner, Courtney and Jordan Weeks, Norman "Soupy" Barnes, Dennis Hall; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and dear friends.
She has gone home to be with her parents George and Fannie, siblings Beatrice Harmon, William Preston Harmon, Irvin Harmon; sister-in-law Grace Harmon; and brother-in-law James Weeks.
