Matt McNamara of Oyster Bay won the gold medal in scholastic hammer throwing at the 25th Empire State Games, held in Syracuse on July 31 through Aug. 4. The hammer, an Olympic event, consists of a 12-pound steel ball at the end of a four foot wire. Matt has thrown the hammer 182'11" and has been ranked number one in New York State for the past year. He is one of the leading scholastic hammer throwers in the nation, being ranked fifth among the returning seniors of the Class of 2003. FULL STORY

The American Red Cross in Nassau County (ARC/Nassau) looks forward to a potentially record-breaking year at the 13th Annual Swim-A-Cross in Oyster Bay Harbor on Friday, August 16. Last year's Swim-A-Cross had an all-time record of 149 swimmers and raised a record setting $22,000 for local disaster relief and life-saving programs. FULL STORY
