Praise for Rapid Spill Cleanup
Friends of the Bay (FOB) complimented Commander Oil Company and its new owner, Island Properties, for the immediate, professional response to Friday's (June 7, 2002) spill of 400 gallons of gasoline into Oyster Bay Harbor. F.O.B. also notes the accident forecasts "nearly inevitable" future spills, which make the continued operation of an oil storage and transfer facility incompatible with Oyster Bay's thriving oyster industry.
Early 'Graduation' for Erin Cembrale
Congratulations to Erin Elizabeth Cembrale. She is "graduating" from a program at the BOCES Infant Center for Hearing and Vision in Bethpage on June 19 in a little ceremony marking the end of the year.
Heard Around the Bay
Sometimes the truth really is stranger than fiction. Bob is steady crew on the sailboat Comanche, and Shelley-Sue is crew on Moxie. Both boats and crews are part of a very active racing program that takes place on Wednesday nights in Oyster Bay Harbor. Comanche, a fast boat with a fast rating is new to her captain and crew, who have been struggling to live up to her rating. The captain decided the crew should go out for a practice sail last Monday night. It was a beautiful evening, and when the captain calls, you have to go.
