OBEN Budget Squeaks Through
Oyster Bay-East Norwich passed its school budget vote, as did the majority of Long Island school districts, but the margin locally was very small. The budget passed by 19 votes. For a while on Tuesday, May 21, it seemed it was only squeaking through with a six-vote lead.
Jonathan S. Ryan Remembered in Bayville
Bayville resident Jonathan Ryan who lost his life in the World Trade Center tragedy, was remembered in a ceremony at the Bayville Community Garden on Tuesday, May 7. Bayville Mayor Vicki Siegel, Bayville Village Trustees and the wife and family of Jonathan Ryan joined Cablevision representatives for the dedication.
Friends Have Fun on Bay Day
Kicking off the beach and boating season, Friends of the Bay hosts its second annual Bay Day at Beekman Beach to highlight the beauty and bounty of Oyster Bay. It will take place on June 1 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Beekman Beach. The western waterfront of Oyster Bay hamlet will be filled with music, games, contests, exhibits, food and all-around good times to accompany the 15th annual Blessing of the Fleet, rides on the oyster sloop Christeen, free kayaking, seed clam installations, displays of the abilities of the Atlantic Steamer Fire Company's fireboat, and the ever-popular AnythingThat Floats Race. The event is free.
Sign Up for the Learn to Fish Program
The Boys & Girls Club of Oyster Bay-East Norwich will be beginning the spring session of the Learn to Fish program. The program will run on Thursdays from May 16 through June 20, and will meet from 3:30 - 5 p.m. The cost of the program is $75. Members in grades fourth through eighth are eligible to join.
