  • News: Waterfront Center Is a Trio

    Friends and supporters joined to celebrate the "marriage" of the oyster sloop Christeen to the Waterfront Center. The announcement was made at the kick-off of the boating season at the Sagamore Yacht Club, Sunday, May 5. President of the Waterfront Center Fritz Coudert announced the merger that brings together the Christeen, the Waterfront Center and the Oyster Bay Sailing School as one entity.     Seeing a bilge sock in action was worth a thousand words. The Friends of the Bay free bilge sock program kicked off on Saturday, May 11, at the boat launch area in Theodore Roosevelt Park. FULL STORY

  • Sports: Heard on the Bay

    Our boat is in the water. Sailing season has begun. We can now reclaim the garage, after putting all of our gear back on board. Last Saturday, we had an exhilarating sail back to our home port in Oyster Bay from Huntington Harbor. Before we left the marina in Huntington, there was an unresolved issue with one of the battery switches. It was too beautiful a day to give up the sail home, so instead we decided to push off and deal with fixing or replacing the switch in a few weeks. The sun was bright, the wind was up, and all was well. Just past the lighthouse at the entrance to Huntington Harbor, we turned the engine off and put up the sails. It's a wonderful sound to hear the water rushing past the hull of the boat as the wind moves the boat through the water. Even better though, is to hear the sound of the engine starting when you want it to. FULL STORY

  • Sports: Set Sail for the Summer

    Once again, the Boys & Girls Club of Oyster Bay-East Norwich will offer Sail Oyster Bay, a high quality, affordable sailing program to the youth of the community. Sail Oyster Bay will run in cooperation with the Oyster Bay Sailing School at the Waterfront Center. Registrants will participate in classes designed to provide practical, hands-on experience in sailing. There will be two sessions offered in this program: The preseason Sailing Program and the Summer Sailing Program. FULL STORY
