Historic District for Buckram Road?
Members of the Locust Valley Civic Association and Locust Valley Historical Society are seeking to form an historic district on Buckram Road: "from trestle to trestle." They met on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at the Locust Valley Library and decided at the conclusion to send out letters to the 35 property owners in that area, asking if they are in favor of the action.

Making the Hamlet a Better Place
The Town of Oyster Bay will hold several hearings at their Jan. 22 meeting. The Town Board hearing room should be filled to overflowing with the number of hearings scheduled. It will feature the Hamlet Plan, the East Norwich Park District proposal, a moratorium on development for the Buckram Road area of Locust Valley and possibly, raises for the town's elected officials.

Heard Around the Bay
We have been asked to write a column on sailing, in and around Oyster Bay Harbor. My wife and I are members of the Sagamore Yacht Club. Shelley-Sue is the fleet captain and I am on the board. Sagamore is the local yacht club, serving the Oyster Bay area for over 50 years. It is a family-friendly, unpretentious club, actively seeking regular members as well as house members.

Wanted: Pump-Out Boats
Friends of the Bay has launched a letter writing campaign urging the town to purchase and staff a pump-out boat for Oyster Bay Harbor. In a recent letter to Supervisor John Venditto, FOB Executive Director Denise Woodin said that the acquisition of such a vessel for the 2002 boating season is a high priority for the Friends of the Bay and its members.
