Martha Heidtmann, 94, of Athens, OH, died on Aug. 14, 2001 at Kimes Convalescent Center, Athens. Daughter of the late John and Fanny Moritz Vogelbach, she was born March 28, 1907 in Jamaica, NY. Mrs. Heidtmann was a homemaker. She was a longtime resident of Westbury and East Norwich. She and her husband moved to Ohio in 1991. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Advent in Westbury. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Peter Heidtmann and Linda Collins of Athens and Denis and Eve Heidtmann of Portland, OR; three grandchildren, Stephen Heidtmann of Burbank, CA, Ann Gadrim of Nelsonville, OH, and Evan Heidtmann of Portland; one great-granddaughter, Sophia Gadrim of Nelsonville. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Wallace H. Heidtmann (March 1998); three sisters and four brothers. Arrangements were made by Jagers Funeral Home, Athens. Memorial graveside service for both Wallace and Martha will be conducted on Oct. 13 at Westbury Friends Cemetery by Fr. Krantz. Mary Fennelly, 96, of Bayville, died Sept. 29, 2001. She was born in NYC and lived in Bayville since 1931. She was preceded in death by her husband William Anthony, a NYC Fireman assigned to Engine 305 in Queens. She was a charter member of St. Gertrude's RC Church Rosary Guild where she remained active for many years. During WWII, she worked in the OB Post Office and retired after 27 years. Additionally during WWII, she served as a Civil Defense warden for the west end of Bayville. She is survived by a daughter, Margaret Hesse of Bayville; a son-in-law, Alfred Hesse of Bayville; a grandson LCDR William Hesse of Ocean Springs, MS, and his wife, Katheryn; a great-granddaughter, Mary Katheryn Hesse of Ocean Springs; a great-grandson, William Patrick Hesse of Ocean Springs; and her sister, Margaret Mullen of Bayville. Arrangements were made by the Francis P. DeVine Funeral Home, Oyster Bay. Funeral Mass at St. Gertrude's RC Church. Interment Calvary Cemetery.
Erwin A. Lavery, 100, died on Sept. 30, 2001. He was a resident of Oyster Bay Manor, life member of the Community United Methodist Church, longtime and active member of the Doubleday Babcock Senior Center, a 70-year Mason, currently a member of the Matinecock Lodge 806 F & AM. Husband of the late Edythe. Uncle of Gerald E. Wakeley, Carol Wakely, George Valentine and Jean Watson. Also survived by his grand-nephew Richard Watson and many friends in the Oyster Bay community.
