"This is Katie calling again. I know the area in this week's newspaper. It is the spa across the street from Rothmann's and I believe the mystery picture last week was Fluid Metering after it was destroyed. I'm calling not only for me, but also for Kevin who also works at the Harborside Deli."
She was right on the first, but wrong on the second.
Beatrice Weeks Cardinale of Locust Valley got it just right. "It's the remains of the original Hanopy market on Buckram Road, Locust Valley. My older children used to pal around with the Hanophys when they were young kids. They lived on Kantiak Lane.
"They moved the market to Oyster Bay later. The market was next to the Country Inn, opposite the Flower Shop. I passed by a few weeks ago and it brought tears to my eyes."
She saw the pile of rubble shown in the picture.
"I used to visit my grandfather's sister. My great-aunt Emily used to live in the house next to Country Bumpkin antique store."
She said last week, while driving along Forest Avenue from Farmer's Bazaar to the red light in the center of town, Birch Hill Road, she counted 84 American flags. She and her husband are veterans, their son was in Vietnam. For years the Cardinales have flown the American flag everyday, in front of their home. "I love my flag," she said.
Billy Minicozzi recognized last week's picture as being by Blueberries. He said the Bayville Fire Company had a food drive for people who worked in the WTC cleanup. Tommy Kraft was in charge, and Bill, Tony, Jeff Burhans and Chief Jerry Flower were involved. Billy donated some Drakes Cakes.
Mike Fletcher called to say, "The mystery picture is northbound on Route 106, south of Blueberries Shopping Center. I don't know the exact location, but there's a day spa there." He also gave a guess on last week's photo: is it the backyard of the big pink house on Kellog and Weeks Ave. where they built two homes on the lot. Is the pile of rubble the barn that was there?" Interesting guess.
Steven Albelda of Optician at East Norwich, recognized Tower Square, near his business in the Blueberries Shopping Mall. He said, "Teddy at Isles Fashion told me to call. He said, 'Oh, it's in front of my store!'"
Thank you Steven!
Thank you all!
