Christeen Meets Oprah
If you saw the crew of the Christeen wearing scarves and sweaters sailing in the blistering summer sun recently, you were not seeing things. And no, the volunteer crew that puts in long hours performing hard work for no pay have not gone crazy. The Christeen was recently chartered by O, the Oprah (Winfrey) magazine for a photo shoot for their upcoming fall fashion issue.
Swim-A-Cross: A Family Affair
There were 140 people signed up for this, the 12th Swim-A-Cross. "About 40 people signed up at the last minute. This is one of the best, if not the best Swim-A-Cross," said Jim Green, Red Cross director of public relations. "Last year it earned about $21,000 and this year we think it will go to $24,000 or $25,000." The annual event is a fund raiser for the Nassau County Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Friends Labor Day Weekend Race
For the past two years, the Sagamore Yacht Club has celebrated Labor Day weekend with a Friends of the Bay Race in Oyster Bay harbor. This year, the Club is teaming up with members of Friends of the Bay for a race that not only marks the unofficial end of summer, but also recognizes the two organizations' common goal of preserving the natural beauty of the bay.
