Oyster Bay Town Councilman Leonard B. Symons urges residents to get into the swim of things this summer at the Town's four community park pools and Tappen pool where, for the fifth straight year, there will be no increase in pool fees.

"I am pleased to be able to tell residents that the Town Board has held the line on fees at our four community park pools and Tappen pool," Symons said. "Oyster Bay Town residents can enjoy swimming at one of our four beautiful community park pool complexes and Tappen pool all summer long for the same rate they have been paying since 1996. You'd have to look hard to find anything else that hasn't gone up in price since then."

The schedule of fees for family memberships at the Town's community park pools...Bethpage, Marjorie R. Post (Massapequa), Plainview-Old Bethpage and Syosset-Woodbury...is $140 for park district residents and $170 for non-park district residents while individual members will be $80 for park district residents and $95 for non-park district individuals. Resident and non-resident senior citizen couple pool fees will be $80 and $95 respectively, while the fee for resident and non-resident senior individuals will be $45 and $55 respectively. The rate for handicapped individuals with a Social Security Medicare I.D. Card will be $40 for residents and $50 for non-residents. Daily admissions for those accompanied by a pool member are $4 for children ages three to 15, $6 for adults 16 and older, and $4 for seniors age 60 and over."

Symons noted that guest books will again be available. The cost of a book with 10 admissions will be $30. Purchase must be made by a pool member, and all those using passes must be accompanied by a pool member.

"The 2001 pool season will run from Saturday, June 23 through Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 3," Symons said. "From June 23 through July 3, the hours of operation will be noon to 8 p.m. Between July 4 and Aug. 19, the pools will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. From Aug. 20 through Sept. 2, pools will be open noon to 8 p.m. On Labor Day, the final day of the 2001 pool season, the hours of operation will be 10:30 to 6 p.m."

The Councilman added that Town pool membership registration forms will be mailed to former pool members before the season begins. Registration will begin Saturday, May 26 at the four community parks. The hours of registration will be Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and holidays, noon to 6 p.m., and Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 7 p.m. Beginning July 13, registration will be conducted Sunday through Saturday, noon to 6 p.m. Residents must bring proof of residency such as a tax bill, driver's license or utility bill that has their name and address.

For residents on the Town's north shore, Tappen pool will be open for the season on Saturday, June 24, with no increase in fees.

"As with our community park pools, fees at Tappen pool have been held at the 1996 level," Symons stated. "Resident memberships are $130 for families, $70 for individuals, $40 for individual senior citizens and $60 for married senior couples. Non-residents may use the pool Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. The fees are $10 for adults and $6 for children three to 15 and senior citizens 60 and older."

The Councilman indicated that registration forms for Tappen pool membership will be mailed to former members before the start of the season. Registration will begin on Saturday, May 26. The hours of registration will be Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and holidays from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. On Tuesday and Thursday, registration forms will be accepted between noon and 7 p.m.

Symons added that the Tappen pool season will run through Labor Day. The hours of operation will be Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to dusk, and Sunday, 11 a.m. to dusk. The only exception to these hours will be to accommodate the North Shore Swim Program.
