After a long wait, and a multitude of follow up calls, the new tourism map of Oyster Bay has arrived. "Tourism is a growing industry on Long Island and brings a lot of revenue to the town in the form of 'new' dollars," said Kathy Wilson, executive director of the Oyster Bay Chamber of Commerce.
A recent survey by the Long Island Convention and Visitors Association showed that hotels are starting to crop up again; and that people who come to LI don't come from that far away - we are more of a weekend destination, she said.
Making it happen required a phone call to the NYS District Attorney, the Florida State's Attorney's office; the Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce and NYC Assistant District Attorney Harris, said Kathy Wilson.
"I was disappointed that the project didn't run smoothly because everyone in the hamlet was so supportive of it," she said.
The project was to have been delivered last spring! Still all the material is current and all the businesses are still here, she said.
The brochure is a showcase of merchants and visitor destinations in town, as well as a map of the area. All the local advertisers will receive copies in proportion to the size of their ad. Oyster Bay Dodge, which took the back page in the pocket-fold pamphlet, will receive 300 maps. The East Woods School will receive 250 maps.
Ms. Wilson took most of the photographs shown in the brochure. She designed the front cover by putting together two photographs of swans with a scene of the bay.
"It's a major job done by Kathy Wilson," said Wayne Peseri of LI Carpentry Plus.
