'Quality Community' Takes Action
Although the Quality Communities Steering Committee has lost its grant opportunity, it has kept its $20,000 contribution from Island Properties and is expected to get another $18,000 from the Main Street Association. The latter amount is to pay for a marketing survey for which the QCSC voted to hire Abeles Phillips Preiss & Shapiro, of NYC. They have a busy schedule planned, involving the local community.

Former Hallock Dealership Razed
First orange construction tape went up and soon the demolition began at the former Hallock Chevrolet dealership at 286 South Street. Island Properties, owner of the lot, sent in crews to demolish the auto body shop and showroom building.

Women in Sports in Oyster Bay:
Meredith Waltzer who is presently an Oyster Bay High School senior has qualified to compete in the finals of the Marshall Sterling Jumper Finals. This national event will be held in Raleigh, North Carolina. This competition will also benefit the Duke Children's Hospital.

Oyster Bay Lions Annual Fishing Tournament For the Physically Challenged
On Sept. 10, the Oyster Bay Lions Club held its Fifth Annual Fishing Tournament for the Physically Challenged. The 30 contestants along with 16 aides went out aboard a commercial party fishing vessel at 9 a.m. and returned at 2 p.m. A lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs, and cold drinks was served.
