Celebrating its 17th year, the Oyster Festival will have a mix of music to satisfy all tastes. From bands who are marking an anniversary engagement to those who will be joining us for their first year.

One of the bands that will be performing are the Electrix, a group of seasoned musicians, each with over 25 years of diverse experience in the music field. They perform classic rock of the Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers, and other related types of music, and do it with an incredible amount of enthusiasm, kick and feeling, adding their own interpretation and style.

The Electrix have been playing around the Metropolitan, Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island areas over 20 years, and with the present line-up of members since mid '95.

Oyster Bay's own Bossa Nova Beatniks return for their sixth appearance at the Oyster Fest. With four domestic CDs and one French import album to their credit, the Beatniks delight crowds young and old with their American- Other style of funky rockin' calypso music seasoned with a bit of salsa.

Another group to look out for is darby jones, whose members hail from Long Island and New Jersey, and is a power pop quartet that intertwines guitar hooks, vocal harmonies and explosive instrumentation. David Hinckley of the Daily News describes the band's sound as an Úquot;infectious brand of pop/rock.Úquot; While Bob Makin, from Courier News in New Jersey, best describes the band by mixing the Monkees and Nirvana into a bittersweet cocktail drunk by R.E.M. and the replacements and you've got darby jones. This band was featured in the semifinals of the 1999 Good Times Long Island Music Festival and continues to tour the east coast in support of its independent CD Úquot;Racket On the Seventh FloorÚquot; and are currently working on their second release.

So come on down Oct. 14 and 15 from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Enjoy the music, Cablevision's Children's Entertainment area, State Banks Extravagant Food Court, Satellites Unlimited's Arts & Crafts Show, the Historic Boat exhibit and more. For additional information call 516-624-8082.
