Stop World Hunger, Inc. is pleased to announce its tennis schedule for the year 2000 - its 20th year of tennis activities! Since the summer of 1981, Stop World Hunger's tennis programs have raised more than $57,000 to help Catholic Relief Services feed God's hungry children throughout the world. Assistance is provided "wherever the need is greatest" regardless of race, religion, and/or nationality.
First up for the year 2000 is a tennis party benefit scheduled for Saturday evening, March 18. Participants are guaranteed two hours of playing time (doubles) as well as light refreshments. Profits from the evening will be forwarded to Catholic Relief Services to help "circle the world with love." In addition, canned foods will be collected to benefit a local food pantry. The cost for the evening is $15 for players and $5 for non-players. Additional tennis parties are planned for June, September and December.
For tournament-minded recreational tennis players the "Stop World Hunger" Spring Tennis Tournament will take place from April 1-May 31. Tournament format consists of round-robin, no elimination play. Based upon registration, divisions are set up according to the ability levels and geographic locations of the players. Events consist of singles play for men and women, as well as doubles play for men, women and mixed teams. The cost for the tournament is $6 for singles and $10 for doubles. Matches are scheduled at mutually convenient times and sites at the convenience of the participants. Besides the Spring Tennis Tournament, a Summer Tennis Tournament and a Fall Tennis Tournament will follow.
Registration deadline for the Spring Tennis Tournament is Tuesday, March 21. Applications for the tennis tournament and tennis party and additional information may be obtained by writing to Stop World Hunger Tennis Tournament, 50 Cherry Street, Farmingdale, NY 11735. Or, if you prefer, you may call Matt Swit at 1-631-789-3618 (evenings between 8-10 p.m.)
Thank you for helping to create a world without hunger for all of God's children!
