Legislator Brian Muellers has an agenda: to serve the people of the 18th district. First on his list is helping villages get their fair share of the county sales tax money. While the villages thought they were going to get $12 million of the two percent sales tax returned to Nassau County by the state, County Executive Tom Gulotta took the item out of the budget at the 11th hour. The 1999 Legislature passed the budget without benefiting the villages.
Students Taking Ownership at Vernon
Current fourth and fifth grade students at the Vernon School took center stage as their project, started last year, came to fruition. They were all members of the Vernon Student Council and are: Tim Haefele, vice president; Austin Huminski, president; Caitlin DiBlasi, secretary; Nicole Turney, treasurer; Allison Competiello, publicity coodinator and Jaime Frydman, another publicity coordinator. The publicity coordinators made posters and did the morning announcements about the project in the school.
OB Girls Fencing Team Hit the Mark
Oyster Bay High School can take pride in their fencing teams! The Oyster Bay High School Girl's Fencing Team won the Nassau County Championship. They competed against six other teams at Hewlett High School, Saturday, Feb. 5, at an all day event.
Liz Macri Named Player of the Week
Liz Macri, of Oyster Bay, a junior at Dartmouth College, was named player of the week by the Ivy League Women's Ice Hockey Association. Players from the league are from Dartmouth, Brown, Harvard, Princeton, Cornell and Yale.
