On Wednesday, Oct. 20, football stars Leon Johnson and Dedric Ward of the New York Jets visited the Boys & Girls Club. They spoke about important issues, covering topics such as keeping a positive attitude, staying away from drugs and alcohol, staying in school, peer pressure and choosing friends wisely.

The 36 members in attendance, in grades third through ninth, also enjoyed having the opportunity to ask the football stars questions!

Before leaving the club, Leon Johnson and Dedric Ward posed for pictures and signed autographs for all the children. It was a fun and exciting day for all in attendance.

On Thursday, Oct. 21, 31 members of the Boys & Girls Club of Oyster Bay joined in a tennis clinic given by Karen Terzano, sponsored by Chase Championships of the WTA tour.

Children learned basic skills, such as forward and backhand swings, and several tennis ball drills. They also had the opportunity to hit the ball over the tennis net to win prizes. The Boys & Girls Club will be sponsoring a trip to Madison Square Garden to watch the top 16 female tennis players in the world.

The trip is on Saturday, Nov. 20. It will be a fun-filled day of tennis and special activities.
