The new Oyster Bay Civic Association accomplished a great deal at the September meeting. Originally called for Sept. 16, the night Tropical Storm Floyd hit Oyster Bay, it was re-scheduled for Sept. 21 at the Italian-American Citizens Club.

The 16th Annual Oyster Festival will take place on Oct. 16 and 17 in the hamlet of Oyster Bay. One exciting aspect of the festival is an area devoted to the younger generation continuing to make the festival an event that spans the generations. This year the Oyster Bay Chamber of Commerce welcome's Cablevision Systems Corporation as the Sponsor of the Children's Entertainment Area that has become a highlight of the festival.

With the new face Oyster Bay High School has taken due to the construction in recent months, it is fitting that the varsity boys' soccer team has taken on a younger face as well. The team, coached by Tim Brady, has an unusual number of underclassmen playing, with several sophomores taking key roles. As many as eight of the 11 starting positions could be filled by sophomores this year. The graduation of some key seniors has made this necessary. Despite this, Brady feels confident that the team will have both an exciting and successful season.
