Oyster Bay is looking lovely. We hope you have noticed the two benches on South Street, in front of Townsend Square. They are a step in the right direction toward making the hamlet a special place for customers, residents and visitors.
The Rotary Club of Oyster Bay donated the funds for one bench and the Oyster Bay Chamber of Commerce paid for the other one. The chamber is responsible for the two planters and the plants.
It is a nice beginning toward a downtown revitalization and it is good to see that it was a combined effort.
The Beautification Committee of the chamber - Rebecca Rhodes-Weinreich and Connie Gallo get a great deal of credit for the work they did.
All and all, it's a good beginning.
All take a deserved bow!
The committee is also interested in creating new signage in town to reflect the historic nature of the town. That is another step toward making the hamlet a great place to visit.
With the Oyster Festival coming up, the town will be looking great. It will send out a message that we want people to come back - feel at home - and maybe spend a few dollars here in town. What could be better! - DFK
