The Chase Championships Van from Madison Square Garden, a promotion in motion, visited the Boys & Girls Club on July 21 providing a free tennis clinic in conjunction with the USTA Eastern Long Island Region. The 120 boys and girls in fourth through sixth grade attending the summer camp at the Boys & Girls Club enjoyed the introduction to tennis and the hit for prizes at the end of the clinic conducted by Karen Terzano, from Madison Square Garden, and Lisa Salvatierra from the U.S.T.A Eastern Long Island region.
The Chase Championships Van Program represents the premier tournament on the worldwide WTA tour to be held from November 15 to 21. Players expected to compete in this year's tournament featuring only the top 16 women players in the world include Anna Kournikova, Martina Hingis, Venus and Serena Williams and Steffi Graf. Marketing coordinator for the van program, Karen Terzano, says, "The van program has been on the road from June 1 and will continue to the end of October. We are covering the tri-state area attending Chase special events, city parks, public and private tennis club events and providing clinics at various Girl Scout Camps and one here today. Each visit is tailored to meet the needs of the public. The van program offers an opportunity for players to demo a Yonex racquet, use the Penn balls and enjoy free giveaways from all of our sponsors or to purchase select individual tickets at a 25 percent discount."
Sponsors of the van in addition to Chase include Yonex, Penn, Sports Illustrated for Women, The Village Voice and the WTA. Through the van program tennis professionals are offered Chase championships rewards for bringing in groups to this year's tournament.
