Runners and walkers of all ages and abilities are invited to participate in the Locust Valley 5K Run scheduled for April 17 -- rain or shine -- sponsored by the Locust Valley Rotary Club.
The race will begin at 9 a.m. at Thomas Park, across from the railroad station, and cover a course with some challenging hills designed to test the stamina of the contestants early in the season. Awards to top male and female runner, and top male and female runner in each age category will be presented.
The entry fee is $15 for adults and $5 for all children 12 and under. Distinctive T-shirts and other gifts will be given to all registrants.
John DeLeo, chairman of the 5K Run, believes the event has been carefully planned so that a great time will be had by all -- young and old -- and provide an opportunity for the contestants, friends and relatives to not only watch or participate in a fun day but to see beautiful Locust Valley at its springtime best.
In addition, DeLeo says, "The contestants, through their entry fees, will be contributing funds to enable the Locust Valley Rotary to continue the many community, national and international projects in which it is involved." The Rotary supports scholarships for Locust Valley high school seniors, the Interact Club at Locust Valley High School, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, the Grenville Baker Club, community concerts, community blood drive, International Student Exchange program, Polio Plus, Honduras Relief Project and Gift of Life.
Entry forms may be obtained at local merchants. For more information about the Locust Valley 5K Run, call Susan Ackerman at 671-6835.
