Stop World Hunger Inc. is pleased to announce its 1999 schedule of tennis benefits for the 1999 calendar year. The mission of "Stop World Hunger" is to increase awareness about the problem of hunger in the world and to raise funds to provide famine relief wherever the need is greatest. More than 10 million children die each year from hunger-related causes.

During the calendar year 1999, "Stop World Hunger" will be sponsoring seven tennis-related benefits including three tennis tournaments and four tennis parties. The tournaments are scheduled for spring (April and May), summer (July and August), and fall (October and November). The tennis parties are scheduled for March, June, September and December.

Registration for the Spring Tennis Tournament is currently taking place until Monday, March 22. The cost is $6 for singles and $10 for doubles. Events consist of singles for men and women, as well as doubles for men, women and mixed teams.

Based upon registration, divisions are set up according to the ability levels and geographic locations of the players. Format for the tournament is no elimination, round-robin play. Matches are best two out of three sets. All entry fees and donations are forwarded to Catholic Relief Services. CRS helps to feed hungry children based upon need regardless of race, religion and nationality.

The first party of 1999 will take place on Saturday evening, March 20, at Carefree Racquet Club in North Merrick. The cost is $15 per player for two hours of doubles tennis and light refreshments. Space is limited and reservations are required.

Applications and more information about the "Stop World Hunger" tennis events may be obtained by writing to: Stop World Hunger, 53 Elm Place, Amityville, NY 11701. Or call Matt Swit at 789-3618 (evenings, from 9-10 p.m.).
