The gym was filled with fans both past and present, who came to pay tribute to 70 years of athletics and competition in the Oyster Bay High School gym. A ceremony marking the end of an era for the school preceded the last varsity boys' basketball game at home on the evening of Feb. 10.

Dominic Ranaldo tossed the basketball in celebration of the past 70 years. Mr. Ranaldo is a member of the class of '47 and a former employee of the OBEN School District.

Principal Dr. Elizabeth Scott addressed the attendees saying: "This marks a turning point in the history of Oyster Bay High School. Since 1929, the gym has been a source of pride with so many experiencing the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat." After her speech, Dr. Scott introduced Rick Robinson who described the scene of the dedication 70 years ago, as well as the move in 1929 from the high school on Anstice Street built in 1900. The last game started as Dominic Ranaldo, OBHS class of 1947 and former employee who worked at the high school, tossed the basketball as a ceremonial gesture of the last home game.

The boys' varsity team defeated Cold Spring Harbor, 51-42. The victory was a sweet ending to the long history of the facility. Dr. Scott stated when she spoke about the new Howard Imhof gym, "Fill the new courts with the spirit of the past, build on the fine athletic tradition of OBHS."
