The Oyster Bay East Norwich Soccer Club Kicked Off Their 1998 Fall Season on Saturday, September 12.

For the past 20 years, the Oyster Bay East Norwich (OBEN) Soccer Club has provided competitive soccer for the more serious, competitive soccer players through their travel program. Their intramural program is designed for the beginner player with interest in learning and competing in the sport of soccer.

Teams are formed in the various age groups that range from kindergarten to sixth grade in the intramural program. In the travel program, there are players that go beyond the sixth grade. Our oldest travel team is the Lightning which includes players that are 15-years of age.

Coaches volunteer their time to teach our players during practice which is once or twice a week. In addition, the club provides professional trainers to further develop soccer skills.

The OBEN fall soccer season is well under way for our five travel teams. Since the spring season ended, most teams participated in soccer camps and tournaments held throughout Long Island that were held during the summer.

Since the beginning of August, they have been preparing themselves for the fall season by practicing twice a week at Vernon School or Roosevelt Park with their coaches and professional trainers.

The teams play their home games at Vernon School against teams from Queens, Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Games are played on Saturdays and Sundays. Since we have five travel teams, if you are interested in watching them play, you are assured to catch a game on Saturday or Sunday as usually half the teams play home and the other half play away on alternate weeks. Please stop by and cheer our teams on and enjoy.

The following are our travel teams representing our town throughout Long Island and New York State:

The Lightning - Boys under the age of 15.

The Hawks - Players under the age of 14.

The Wildcats - Boys under the age of 12.

The Eagles - Boys under the age of 11.

The Tornadoes - Girls under the age of 11.

On Saturday, Sept. 12, the Intramural teams kicked off their fall season. The Intramural program is offered to boys and girls from kindergarten through sixth grade.

The children have been practicing their skills during many practice sessions with their coaches. The more determined also participated in a one week NOGA soccer camp offered by the club. On Saturday, they displayed their talents with the first soccer game of the season.
