(The following letter was sent to Fred Passarella and is printed here at the writer's request.)

We would like to thank you for the generous donation of your single Alden Ocean Shell to the Association. One of the main reasons for the existence of rowing clubs is that it allows individuals to pool their resources to purchase equipment, which in the case of rowing is rather expensive. Your Alden is like a windfall that reduces that burden. The Association has invested heavily in our operations at Beekman Beach, and we have met with much success. Your shell will help immensely in the training of novice scullers. I personally have used Aldens over the past 13 years in my position as sculling instructor, and find them invaluable. I was going to ask the Association if we could buy an additional Alden for Oyster Bay, but because of you I do not have to.

Donations to Sagamore Rowing Association are tax deductible. The Association's Internal Revenue Service identification number is: 13-7206211.

I would also add that I would be more than happy to give you sculling lessons. Your boat has a new home, but you don't have to say goodbye to it forever.
